Research

Supporting research in space science, technology and applications is an integral part of NSSA’s mission. Furthermore, research in space science and technology can also help achieve national research strategy’s objectives in line with Bahrain 2030 vision.

NSSA assures promoting research in space science within the Kingdom through the release of various research announcements in a wide range of science and technology disciplines. Furthermore, NSSA encourages the education sector in the Kingdom to participate and contribute in various space related research activities through providing necessary technical advice and support.

Space Research Area

The National Space Science Agency encourages the education sector in the Kingdom to participate and contribute to various research activities related to space and to focus their research in the following areas:

Physics of the ionosphere and magnetosphere; meteorology, dynamics of the atmosphere; geophysics, geology; astronomy; cosmology; astrophysics; planetary and interplanetary space physics and climatology.

Satellite technology; on-board computer systems, and mission planning and operations; Navigation and Guidance Systems, propulsion systems design and optimization; aerodynamics and heat transfer problems related to space vehicles; guidance and control systems for launch vehicles and spacecraft; polymer chemistry, composite materials, lightweight structures, additive manufacturing, propellant technology; electric propulsion, energy harvesting methods in space environments, ultra-light-weight structure; satellite energy systems; space electronics,; orbital mechanics, satellite communication, satellite based IoT technology, satellites cyber security, climate monitoring sensor development, autonomous satellite technology based on Artificial Intelligence, space debris mitigation and removal, onboard data processing and edge computing, Inter-satellite communication, 3D printing in space, next generation imaging technology such as hyperspectral cameras ,new material development, space robotics and planetary exploration
