Bahrain joins the largest annual space event in the world – World Space Week slated for October 4-10, aiming at inspiring the workforce of tomorrow by drawing public awareness and support for space programs across the globe.
A line-up of activities are set for a full week of space fair. It includes virtual events targeting kids and youth such as DIY activities on Zoom, where kids will be asked to prepare materials for 2 space related STEM activities which they will do live with a STEM instructor. Live experiments will also be conducted via Zoom with fun and interactive segments for kids to enjoy. Also on the line-up are storytelling sessions in English and Arabic for young kids to enjoy space related stories with Q&A.
Dr. Shawna Pandya, Canadian Scientist-Astronaut Candidate with Project PoSSUM – a Citizen-Science Astronautics Program is also onboard and will be featured in a talk to share her experience and expertise.

The National Space Science Agency (NSSA) in collaboration with Clever Play Education and Training are pleased to announce the holding of its second competition for the Best Design Plan of a Mars Colony of 100 People. This competition is open to all Bahraini children ages 7-12 years old.
The Design Your Mars Colony competition is a multi-disciplinary competition where students will learn extensively about the planet Mars, brainstorm and research design solutions for food, water, energy, and other critical systems necessary in order to build a colony model from house-hold materials.
Competition officially opens on August 16 and will remain open until September 6.
The top 3 winners will be announced on September 10 Winners will receive E-Certificates, Space Trophies and Hands-On STEAM Kits.

It will host a Pilot and Aerospace Engineer Mishaal Ashemimry from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, considered as the first Saudi woman to work in the field of nuclear missile design. She will share about her experiences in the field of space engineering at NASA in the United States of America. She will talk about the inspiration for putting up her own company which manufactures spacecraft and hybrid missiles and her contributions through her work in 22 different missile programs.

It will host Ms. Alyssa Carson– an Astronaut in Training and a Future Mars Walker from the United States of America.
It is anticipated to be an insightful and inspiring talk where Alyssa will be talking about her experience as an astronaut in training and the challenges she’s faced along the way. This initiative by the NSSA will contribute towards its national strategy, including establishing a national base for human capital in the Space sector. The invitation is open to the public.

The National Space Science Agency (NSSA) in collaboration with Clever Play Education and Training are launching a local online competition for children between the ages of 7-12 years old to create their own space game from home for a chance to win prizes this summer! This competition encourages students to participate from home by creating a Mars exploration game using the very popular MIT Scratch programming language. The competition will launch on July 4 and will remain open until July 25.
Competition Rules:
- Participant Nationality: Bahraini
- Participant Age: 7-12 years
- Game to be developed using MIT Scratch programming language
- Work to be submitted in English or Arabic
- Laptop/Desktop and internet access is required
To Apply:
- Register online between July 4 and July 25 on the following link
- Once completed, you will receive an email with all the details you will need to complete your game, including a short e-handbook and videos of examples and ideas of how to create your space game.
- Complete game by July 25, upload it online and send us an email on: competition@cleverplay.org
The top 3 winners will be announced on July 30. Winners will receive E-Certificates, Space Trophies and Hands-On STEAM Kits.
