Dr. Mohamed Jassim Alothman

Dr. Mohamed Jassim Alothman earned his B.Sc. degree in Physics with a minor in computer science from the University of Bahrain in 1992 and his Ph.D. from Boston University, Massachusetts, USA, in 2000.

He joined the University of Bahrain in 1992 and became a member of the faculty in April 2000. He chaired the Department of Physics from September 2008 until December 2012.

He was involved in the testing and calibration of energetic particle detectors onboard on NASA’s Polar satellite which was launched in February 1996. He was also involved in the ESA’s Cluster satellites which were launched in 2000, measuring the energetic electrons and protons trapped in the magnetosphere.

His research interests include studying the energetic particles trapped in the Van Allen Radiation Belt and modeling their properties and their interaction with magnetospheric magnetic field. He has several research papers in Astronomy and Space Physics.

He is a member of the High Committee for the Bahraini Calendar since 2005 and was a member of the Board of Directors for the National Space Science Agency (2014-2019).
