National Space Science Agency chief executive Dr. Mohamed Al Aseeri has participated in the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space meetings that were held virtually starting Friday 19th 2021 at the invitation of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.

Dr. Al Aseeri said: the main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposals submitted by the representatives of the participating countries. All proposals aimed at the service and development of mankind, which were discussed thoroughly to advance the efforts of the participating countries, since the field of outer space and its science has become the interest of many governments around the world; for its positive impact of various sectors such as education, health, agriculture, technology, security, communications, transportation, scientific research, and many others.

Dr. Al Aseeri emphasized on the importance of space technologies for it being a pillar in the development of different fields, and according to studies published by the United Nations, 40% of the seventeen sustainable development goals approved by the United Nations General Assembly cannot be achieved without the help of space science and related technologies. And it is our pride that Bahrain has taken the initiative to take advantage of space science, by a wise vision of Bahrain’s leadership. And we are thankful to witnessing today the fruits in the achievements of Bahrain’s youth in the fields of space and its science.

Dr. Al Aseeri added: The committee meetings witnessed the participation of more than 137 country representatives, consultants, and space experts, in addition to representatives of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs. The participating countries in coordination with the UNOOSA will work continuously to prepare for the 58th session that will be held in the period from 19th to 30th April 2021 where the final recommendations will be discussed, and decisions will be issued on what is agreed upon. The topics in the next meeting are important for the development of this vital sector.

It is worth mentioning that the National Space Science Agency is a member of the United Nations Office of Outer Space, and it is an active member of the Committee on the Use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes, since 2017.
